How to create useful energy from waste

The first in a series on quantifying net beneficial energy scenarios

Questions: how might we create useful work from power production plant excess energy? What potential benefit does excess “free” otherwise wasted energy (then stored in various batteries) have for future work in these energy production scenarios:

  • Solar/conventional electrochemical battery
  • Hydro/gravity battery
  • Biomass Combustion or Nuclear/thermal battery
  • ??? other interesting combos ???

Method: evaluate scenarios on complexity, GHG, utility for social benefit, and cost

  • What physical limits exist, theoretical “ceiling” of captured excess/energy benefit
  • What is the “net” impact of each scenario in GHG
  • Social impact assessment
  • Approximate cost vs scale

Applications of various scenarios

  • Tradeoffs between cost, impact
  • Economies of scale
